The M Hotel
2040 Walden Ave, Buffalo, NY 14225
716-681-2400
Our venue and recommended accommodations are both in the M Hotel, less than 15 minutes from the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. In anticipation of this historic eclipse, hotels and flights are likely to book quickly and be sold out weeks ahead of our event.
There is a room block at the M Hotel. To reserve a room, call the hotel at 716-681-2400 and ask for the Gunther-Collins wedding rate. The rates are $129 per night for a regular room or $169 per night for a courtyard room. We recommend that out of town visitors book Sunday and Monday night (April 7th to 9th) in order to celebrate the eclipse with us. For a longer weekend in Buffalo, the room block is available for 4 nights, April 5th to 9th.
Our event begins April 8th 2024 at 11am in the M Hotel courtyard. We will be celebrating during the lead-up to the totality of the eclipse, which will be at 3:18pm. The event will end by 5pm.
Note: we will be providing eclipse glasses for all guests. No one should look directly at the sun without this protective eyewear at any time.
The eclipse begins at approximately 1:52pm. This means the moon starts to cover the sun. With glasses, viewers can begin watching the eclipse.
Totality begins at 3:18pm. This is the period when the moon is entirely blocking the sun, creating a characteristic “corona” around the moon. This will last for a little under 4 minutes, until 3:22pm. We will be inviting guests outside with us for a small ceremony during totality.
The eclipse ends at approximately 4:45pm. The moon no longer covers any of the sun, and we will be wrapping up, too!
The sun sets at approximately 7:20pm on our date.
We will be viewing the eclipse rain or shine. Though the eclipse is far less impressive when obscured by clouds, there is still a notable darkness and 360-degree sunset effect that are worth witnessing.
This eclipse is the last continental solar eclipse for 75 years!
